Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-bred horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Wednesday's Observations features another foal out of a Group 1 winner.
14.50 Sandown, Novice, £10,000, 2yo, 7fT
COSMIC YEAR (GB) (Kingman {GB}) is the 11th foal out of Juddmonte's G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud heroine Passage Of Time (GB) (Dansili {GB}), with her previous Kingman being the dual group 3 winner Tempus (GB) and her best overall being Dubawi's multiple group winner and top-level-placed sire Time Test (GB). Introduced by Harry Charlton, the homebred will have to be smart to contend with Amo Racing's Rock d'Oro (Bolt D'Oro), another promising juvenile trained by Ralph Beckett who made the subsequent G2 Champagne Stakes winner Bay City Roller (Ire) (New Bay {GB}) work at Chelmsford on debut.
14.30 Great Yarmouth, Novice, £9,950, 2yo, f, 6f 3yT
QUEEN OF THE ROSES (IRE) (Ribchester {Ire}) is slated to start at large odds on debut, but trainer Michael Appleby has enjoyed major success with her half-brother Big Evs (Ire) (Blue Point {Ire}) and it will be interesting to see how much Jaber Abdullah's homebred takes after her rapid sibling. Among her peers is Nurlan Bizakov's Newbury maiden fourth Maissara (GB) (Frankel {GB}), a Roger Varian-trained daughter of the dual listed scorer Mrs Gallagher (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) who cost 425,000gns at the 2022 Tattersalls December Foal Sale.
